School 33 Art Center Project Space 2018 Call for Proposals

School 33 Art Center is now accepting proposals for several 2018-2019 exhibitions in our 165 square foot Project Space.

This application is free of charge and open to all. Proposals are due no later than Monday, April 2, 2018, at 11:59pm. Click here for a link to the application form on Submittable.

With the Project Space, School 33 Art Center is committed to providing opportunities for artists working in multiple forms of visual media to present intimate bodies of work, or to realize experimental installations for which they may not otherwise have the support. We are open to video projections, sculptural installations, and / or any other ideas for which this would be an ideal space. The interior of the Project Space can be fully altered by the artist (if so desired), including painting walls, ceilings, and floors, lighting, or building structures within. Stipends or reimbursements for non-transferable expenses such as building materials, paint, hauling / shipping, etc. may be offered by School 33 on a case by case basis. Applicants must be available to fully execute installation and deinstallation. Chosen artists will have an option to present programming relating to their work, such as an artist talk or workshop.

Join the competition! ARTsites takes the artwork out of our galleries and places it in public spaces across Howard County. Each year we select new sculptures, which are installed in August and remain in place until July of the following year.

Call for Artists: Bethesda Painting Awards

2017 Bethesda Painting Award winner Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann

The Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District invites local artists to submit work to the 14th annual Bethesda Painting Awards. This juried art competition awards $14,000 in prizes to four selected winners. The deadline for submissions is Friday February 23, 2018. Up to eight finalists will be chosen to display their work at Bethesda’s Gallery B in June 2018.

The competition will be juried by Sally Bowring, Professor of Painting and Director of Administration for the Painting & Printmaking Department, Virginia Commonwealth University; Laura Roulet, independent curator and writer and Bill Schmidt, artist and winner of the 2016 Baker Artist Awards and the 2015 Bethesda Painting Awards.

Call for Artists: New Photography

Photographic artists of all walks are invited to submit their latest works to a new national juried show at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD. The exhibition aims to highlight the current state of photography across a broad spectrum. Artists may submit all types of photographic works including digital, analog, alternative processes, etc.

Juror

Sarah Stolfa, Chief Executive Officer and Artistic Director of the Philadelphia Photo Art Center. Sarah Stolfa is a working fine-art photographer and educator with over eight years of experience in photography, education, curatorial work and digital lab creation and management. She has an MFA in Photography from Yale University School of Art. In addition to teaching at PPAC, Stolfa has taught at the Yale University Art Gallery, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the University of Delaware and Drexel University. She currently teaches at the University of Pennsylvania.

Call for Artists: Raising Hands and Voices

Raising Hands and Voices is a collaborative exhibition organized by students and faculty at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) and the Maryland Institute College of Art. The exhibition, which is planned to coincide with the fourth annual CCBC Africana Studies Independent Film Festival, will include artwork addressing the themes of racial profiling, police violence, and tension between the police and the Baltimore community. These issues are explored in the film Profiled, which will be featured in this year’s film festival. The purpose of the Raising Hands and Voices exhibition is to increase awareness of systematic inequalities in policing that affect communities of color while bringing the experiences of victims of police violence, who are often unacknowledged, from the margin to the center.
