The New Greenmount West Community Association is now accepting proposals for paintings, stenciling, graffiti and street art on new plywood panels “the canvases” that will cover the windows and doors of the boarded up buildings on the 400 block of Lanvale Street. This project is funded by the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation Spruce Up Grant that was recently awarded to the New Greenmount West Community Association.
Each artist will be asked to do art work on all 9 panels per row house. The selected artist will receive an honorarium of two hundred dollars $200 per row house. Artists can apply for multiple row houses. Primer and the plywood panels will be provided. Artist must prime panels, supply paint and additional supplies. Artists can pick up plywood panels and work in their own space or can utilize the Greenmount West Community Center to work. The plywood panels will be installed by others once painted by the artists.
Prospective artists are asked to submit a rendering of their design for the boards. The New Greenmount West Community Association respectfully requests that artists do not propose any artwork that includes profanity or racial slurs and no paste ups. While not required, including links or examples of previous work and/or an artist statement with your submission is highly encouraged.
Submissions due Friday March 29th, 2013 at 5:00 pm.
The Park Committee expects to announce the selected artists by the 1st week of April. Artwork on the plywood panels begins the 2nd week in April and is to be completed by mid May, 2013.
