Art on the Llano (Lubbock, TX) Issues 2015 Call for Public Art Proposals

Art on the Llano is accepting submissions from Texas and New Mexico artists for large, outdoor public artworks to be placed at major, high-traffic interchanges in Lubbock, Texas. This initiative seeks to enhance the quality of the visual landscape of our community, provide quality cultural presentation to both citizens and visitors, encourage creative activity, foster community identity, support economic development, and improve aesthetic values through educational opportunities.

Art on the Llano is a consortium of Lubbock groups supporting art in the community including the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, the Buddy Holly Center, Civic Lubbock, and Visit Lubbock,  Texas Tech University School of Art and the Texas Tech University Public Art Collection.

Since 2012 Art on the Llano has supported two-year sculpture installations in Lubbock’s public sphere by selecting works proposed by artists and installing them at major traffic intersections.

Up to Three (3) works will be selected for a two (2) year installation. A $4,000 honorarium for each sculpture and a $500 shipping allocation will be awarded to the selected artists.

Call for Artists: Arizona Public Art Projects

Oro Valley, Arizona Public Art Opportunity

Request for Proposals

Total Art Budget: $27,000

Submission Deadline: January 6, 2015

The goal of the project is to develop a viable, permanent public art project for the Stone Canyon Golf Clubhouse of Oro Valley including its final installation at either or both of two proposed locations on campus. The public art project desires to include three-dimensional art to be located either in the clubhouse’s breezeway or part of the outside landscape near the front of Clubhouse site.  The project seeks qualified artist applicants specializing in mediums including Steel, Bronze, Natural Materials, Metal, Wood, Ceramic, Stone, Concrete and Cast Stone, and glass with the possibility of lighting elements and features.  Acceptable and preferred genres include Modern, Human Forms, Animal Forms, Nature Inspired Forms, and Abstract.  The preferred colors may range from natural to vibrant.  The intent of the project is for the artwork to complement the surroundings in the natural setting outside as part of the landscape or within the breezeway and can serve as a standalone piece, multiple pieces or functional art.

ALL SEASONS OF ORO VALLEY

Oro Valley, Arizona Public Art Opportunity Request for Qualifications-Public Art

The goal of the project is to develop a viable, permanent public art project for All Seasons of Oro Valley including its final installation at four different locations on campus. The public art project desires to include sculptures to be located on a Senior Citizen Multi-Family site. The project seeks qualified artist applicants specializing in the medium of bronze and metal sculptures. Weather resistant wood sculptures will also be accepted.

These “to scale” sculptures of local wildlife, flora and fauna are to be placed into a natural setting. The intent of the project is for the artwork to complement the surroundings in a natural setting, with to-scale artwork.

The Competition

On the occasion of IDEAS CITY 2015, the biennial Festival created to explore the future city and to effect change—Storefront for Art and Architecture, along with the New Museum and the New York City Department of Transportation, is launching a Competition for the design and construction of an outdoor structure—a work of “Street Architecture” that facilitates new forms of collective gathering and engagement with the city.

IDEAS CITY 2015 is the third iteration of the biennial Festival organized by the New Museum in partnership with the Architectural League of New York, Bowery Poetry Club, Cooper Union, the Drawing Center, and Storefront for Art and Architecture. The 2015 theme,The Invisible City, will be an invitation to explore the question of visibility and related dynamics, including transparency and surveillance, citizenship and representation, expression and suppression, and participation and dissent, as defining forces within the contemporary city.

IDEAS CITY 2015 will take place in downtown New York from  May 28 to 30 ,  2015 . On Saturday, May 30, 2015,  the winning entry of this competition will occupy a designated pedestrianized outdoor space in the vicinity of the New Museum and Bowery area and host programs and activities throughout the day.

The Challenge: Street Architecture

IDEAS CITY 2015 will be organized around a number of stages distributed throughout the neighborhood that will become hubs of activity for a Street Festival taking place on Saturday, May 30.

These hubs will host events including live talks, debates, screenings, performances, games, and workshops.

Call for Artists: Residency at VCCA

Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation through its Creative Fellowships program annually supports residencies for writers, composers, and visual artists at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. The visiting artist is provided with a private studio, room and board, and the company of other artists from around the nation, for an intensive period of self-guided creative exploration and development. In addition to sponsorship support, a small travel subsidy is awarded to the selected artist.

Starting in 2015, the Foundation will support residencies for artists currently residing in New York in addition to Delaware, Maryland, and West Virginia. Interested artists from those states should apply directly to the Virginia Center for the
Creative Arts. More information is available here.

At the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, we create transformative opportunities for our Artists-in-Residence to explore and realize their most important ideas by providing: access to a supportive and rigorous intellectual community, robust opportunities ranging from studio practice to social practice and everything in-between, generous live/work space, an abundance of time, extensive technical assistance and financial support.

The Bemis Center currently supports artists with two inter-related residency programs: at our main campus in the Old Market, and at Carver Bank in North Omaha.

Artists interested in applying to any of our residency opportunities should not be enrolled in an academic program during the timelines described by each cycle.

Call for Artists: Artist-in-Residence at US Nat’l Parks

Artists have created art in national parks since the late 19th century when famed Hudson River painters captured the majestic views of our nation’s western parks. Today, the sights and sounds in national parks continue to inspire artists in more than 50 residency programs across the country.

Whether staying in a remote wilderness cabin at Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska, or contemplating history at the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site in Iowa, or working in a contemporary studio overlooking the stone-lined fields at Weir Farm National Historic Site in Connecticut, these programs provide artists with unique opportunities to create works of art in varied natural and cultural settings.

There are programs for visual artists, writers, musicians and other creative media. Programs vary, but residencies are typically 2-4 weeks in length and most include lodging. Often artists are invited to participate in park programs by sharing their art with the public.
