The Grit Fund, administered by The Contemporary, supports unincorporated and collaborative artist-organized activity that contributes significantly to Baltimore’s arts landscape but seldom qualifies for traditional funding. The fund provides 8-12 grants in amounts between $1,000–$6,000, totaling $50,000 annually. The Contemporary will lead four free information sessions to provide more details on the application process, guidelines, eligibility, funding priorities, and more. While attending an information session is encouraged, attendance is not required to apply for funding. No RSVP necessary. Since we are nomadic, the information sessions are being graciously hosted by the organizations listed below. Additional information, FAQs, and application details can be found here.

Art Orientations
We strongly recommend that artists begin the proposal process by attending an artist orientation. These informal tours/conversations give the artists a chance to experience the space, discuss what makes a successful proposal, ask questions, and observe visitors interacting with the current artist installations.

Please let us know if you plan to attend an artist orientation by sending an email at least 48 hours in advance to Sean Kelley at sk@easternstate.org. Space is limited.

Delivery:
The deadline is for arrival at the site, not for a postmark. Please mail your application with sufficient time to arrive at Eastern State before the deadline. Applicants may also drop off proposals at the site between 10 am and 5 pm daily.

Grace Period:
There is a 24-hour grace period for all applications. Applications received after 4 pm on Thursday, June 18, 2015 will not be reviewed.

Confirmation:
Please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard if you would like confirmation that your package was received. All applicants will be notified of the review committee’s decision by email in the fall.

Planted, Naomi Reis windows installation at Mixed Greens

Mixed Greens is now accepting proposals for the windows project space (3 windows facing 26th Street). Click here to download the window measurements. & click here for FAQs, photos from the inside of the windows and a previous installation.

Artists must email a proposal of images, mock-ups, and/or diagrams that approximate the installation along with text describing the project to submissions.mixedgreens@gmail.com in January of 2015 ONLY w/ “WINDOW PROPOSAL” in the subject line. We also request a resume, statement, and a link to your website. The project needn’t be part of a series, but it must relate to larger themes in your work.

Site-specific window installations change every two to three months. We are looking for site-specific projects that take the light, location, and unique constraints of the space into account.

Currently, we only accept proposals from artists living in the United States.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Beginning October 30, 2014, Socrates Sculpture Park is accepting proposals for the 15th Annual Emerging Artist Fellowship (EAF), a residency program and exhibition that awards 15 artists the opportunity to produce and exhibit sculpture and installation in the park.

EAF15 recipients will receive a $5,000 production grant to support their project, and a five-month studio residency that includes 24/7 access to the resources and fabrication facilities of the park’s outdoor studio. The completed works will become part of an outdoor exhibition, opening in early October 2015. Administrative support for additional fundraising, securing in-kind contributions, and marketing will also be available. An electronic publication will accompany the exhibition and be made available online, for free; printed copies will be provided to EAF15 artists.

Review Process
The EAF program is based on a competitive, open application process. Completed applications received by the deadline (January 12, 2015 at 11:59pm) will be reviewed by the Socrates exhibition department and two curatorial advisors consisting of Gary Carrion-Murayari, Curator, New Museum, and Nora Lawrence, Associate Curator, Storm King Art Center.

Dooby’s is a cafe-restaurant in Mt. Vernon, Baltimore, featuring coffee, pastries and sandwiches during the day and craft beer, cocktails and full service dinner in the evening. We’re looking for local artists to feature work in our 26-seat dining room for six week time periods. We will host an opening reception. We are open to all media. Please be aware that several of the walls are brick, and require heavier duty hanging gear.

Our space gets approximately 350 unique views per day from Peabody/MICA/UB students, staff from Walter’s, nearby galleries, and Agora publishing, as well as community leaders from the Baltimore City non-profits and development organizations. We are located at 802 N. Charles Street, one block from the historic Washington Monument.

CALL FOR TEACHING ARTISTS

Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts is seeking talented Teaching Artists to join the Bright StARTS program arts education team.  Ideal candidates are practicing artists in the disciplines of dance, music, theatre, and visual arts who are committed to working with educators and young people. The Bright StARTS program brings high-quality arts enrichment to the youth of Baltimore City by working through established after-school, summer and at-risk youth centers. The program is currently accepting applications for dancers, creative writers/poets, musicians, theatrical artists, and visual artists with teaching experience or substantial training in teaching artistry. Applicants must demonstrate expertise working as professional artists, a strong commitment to working with educators and young people, strong communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, an ability to facilitate group decision-making, an ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and a strong attention to detail. Artists earn $50/hour to teach Bright StARTS workshops.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

Qualified applicants should submit:

  1. A cover letter and resume, or curriculum vitae, outlining relevant professional, artistic, and teaching experience.
  2. Sample lesson plan.
  3. Artistic Sample: Please share your own original, creative work in the arts discipline in which you work most frequently.

Acceptable artistic samples:

  • 3-4 pages of poetry or prose (DOC or PDF format)
  • 3-4 images (JPG or PDF format)
  • 3-4 Productions/performances list with descriptions, dates, venues, etc. (DOC or PDF format)

The Mattress Factory is currently accepting submissions to be considered for inclusion in upcoming exhibitions at the museum.Submissions will be accepted now through Feb. 6, 2015.  National and international artists are equally welcome to submit.

To be considered, please complete the attached form. Include a brief cover letter, your exhibition history, a selection of your best images of past work and a list identifying them. You may also provide video clips, a professional website link, Vimeo/ YouTube links, and a few publicity items. If attaching video samples directly, keep files to an upload size of 50 MB or less. Only submit examples of recent work that focus on installation art. We want to get a sense of your body of work, background and current art practice.

Answers to frequently asked questions.

– The Mattress Factory is using the service of Submittable.com to manage our form. If you are having technical problems, such as with uploading files, try Submittable’s online help system: http://help.submittable.com/knowledgebase/topics/11810-submitters

– We are only accepting submissions via our Submittable form. This is necessary to manage the volume of submissions that we receive and we will not be responding to mailed or emailed materials for this call. Our form will automatically go offline at midnight EST on Friday February 6, 2015.

– The Mattress Factory is dedicated to installation art. We look for artists with an appropriate body of work and experience to create a new installation in one of our galleries. We are open to a wide range of media including any installation-based approaches to sculpture, architecture, video, performance, technology, painting and drawing.

– An artist whose practice is strictly two-dimensional is typically not considered a good match for our programming.

– The Mattress Factory does not consider specific proposals. We feel that all decisions regarding projects should be made after an artist is invited.

– Collaborative artists should submit examples of past work that were completed as a team. We cannot evaluate the merits of potential collaborators who have not worked together previously.

– Concentrate on providing clear and concise images of your work. Images are the primary way we review materials and are therefore required. All other materials are considered as supplemental. Image file sizes need not be larger than 10 in. x 12 in. at 150 dpi.

– The identification list is for providing information specific to each image and media file you upload. Basic information such as title, year, media and a descriptive sentence are helpful.

– Professional websites and videos are reviewed at our discretion. They are supplemental and are not a good substitute for uploading images.

– A Vimeo link is the most convenient way for us to review video files. You may also upload files that are less than 50 MB. Provide only a brief selection as an introduction to your work.

– A brief cover letter of less than 250 words is appropriate. Letters may be written to the attention of “Mattress Factory.”
