Artscape 2015 begins TOMORROW! Can you believe it? As you’ve been hearing about on this blog and on many local news sources over the past few weeks, this year’s Artscape is bigger and better than ever! There are events going on constantly, in venues all over Baltimore. To help streamline your festival-going experience, I and the entire BOPA team strongly recommends that you download and utilize the Artscape App, powered by Kaiser Permanente and available on Apple and Android mobile devices. On Tuesday, June 23rd, the Baltimore Museum of Art hosted a Press Preview for the Sondheim Artscape Prize Finalists’ Exhibition, which is on view June 24th to August 9th, 2015. I was lucky enough to attend the Press Preview and get a sneak peak at the exhibition before it opened up to the public, and I am beyond impressed with the tremendous group of artists represented in this exhibition! On July 10th, from 9am – 12pm at the Arch Social Club, located on Pennsylvania Avenue, each group participating in the ART@WORK: SANDTOWN program presented their sketches, ideas, and inspirations for the murals that they plan to bring to life. Read More →

Gamescape is a showcase of video games and the creative people who make them, and this year it’s bigger and better than ever! I talked to Lou Joseph, Visual Arts Specialist at BOPA (and also my boss!) who is coordinating several areas of Artscape including Gamescape, about what’s new this year. On Thursday, July 9th, I was lucky enough to visit Benjamin Kelley’s studio to see some of his current projects and chat with him about his life and his work. Ben is a Sondheim Artscape Prize Finalist this year, and his work is currently on view in the finalists’ exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art until August 9th, 2015.
