As part of her week-long residency at MICA, internationally-known artist Andrea Zittel will give a public lecture.
Andrea Zittel (born in Escondido, California 1965) is an American sculptor, installation artist, and Social Practice artist. Zittel’s art is a direct response to her environment and daily routines — transforming everything necessary for life, such as eating, sleeping, bathing, and socializing into artful experiments in living. Blurring distinctions between life and art, Zittel’s projects extend to her own home and wardrobe. Wearing a single outfit every day for an entire season, and constantly remodeling her home to suit changing demands and interests, Zittel continually reinvents her relationship to her domestic and social environment. Seeking to attain a sense of freedom through structure, Zittel is more interested in revealing the human need for order than in prescribing a single unifying design principle or style. Altering and examining aspects of life that are for the most part taken for granted, Zittel makes hand-crafted solutions that respond to the day-to-day rhythms of the body, and the creative need of people to match their surroundings to the changing appearance of life.
Andrea Zittel lives and works in Joshua Tree, CA. Recently, Zittel has had significant museum surveys at Magasin 3, Stockholm in 2012 and Schaulager, Basel in 2009, which followed an extensive touring exhibition “Critical Space,” 2006 -2007 which traveled to the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston; New Museum, New York; Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and Vancouver Art Gallery. Her work can be found in notable private foundations and public institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Moderna Museet, Stockhom; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Tate Modern, London; among many others.

The Community Walk Through Theater (CWTT), an innovative program that will inform, educate, and entertain residents in Midtown. This arts engagement project takes full advantage of Mid-town assets by providing opportunities to create and display art, movies, messages, etc. on a 12 X 19 foot screen using a high powered projector.
Farmers, concessionaires and bazaar vendors are invited to be a part of the Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar’s 40thseason! Maryland’s largest producer market offers an assortment of produce, meats, dairy, breads, flowers, delicious made-to-order cuisine, collectibles and handmade crafts on Sundays from April 23 through December 17, 2017 from 7am to noon. Many Sundays also feature live music performances and cooking demonstrations. The market is located below the Jones Falls Expressway at Holliday & Saratoga streets.

Thanks to a grant from Baltimore Office of the Promotion and the Arts’ PNC Transformative Art program, a collaborative project involving Morgan State University School of Community Health and Policy and Ground Root, Inc. (formerly A New Day) will kick-off the Community Walk Through Theater (CWTT), an innovative program that will inform, educate, and entertain residents in Midtown. This arts engagement project takes full advantage of Mid-town assets by providing opportunities to create and display art, movies, messages, etc. on a 12 X 19 foot screen using a high powered projector. This projector will display information from the second floor window to a wall 150 feet directly across the street. Other partners involved with this project are A Step Forward, BUILD, Ground Root, and Missions Continues.
In addition to the kick-off event the following events will occur on this lot from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Each event will show short movies for children and adults as well share upcoming community events:

- Sunday, October 9: Art in Midtown
- Sunday, October 16: Spirituality in Midtown

Caravanserai is kicking off its Baltimore Made Project, with the debut of a collection of ten Baltimore-themed pillows, designed and illustrated by MICA alumni Steph Stilwell.
Attendees will have the chance to meet with the designer, talk about the inspiration and original artwork, and purchase pillows. The Baltimore-centric designs include Edgar Allen Poe, Billie Holiday, Cab Calloway and a Maryland crab, among others. Light refreshments will be offered.
