June 3 – July 28, 2018
Located on NYU’s downtown campus, in the internationally recognized Steinhardt Department of Art and Art Professions, Summer Studio Residency is a non-residential, 8-week program providing prime space and personalized mentorship to 24 emerging artists interested in focusing on creative practice.
NYU’s SSR program encourages creative risk-taking, experimentation, and expansive dialogue across the following disciplines: drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, and video.
Through our innovative mentorship model, residents will work closely with practicing professional artists.
SSR mentors will function as guides to professional aspects within and beyond the studio by sharing their experiences and skills, providing candid feedback, and offering career advice. Weekly field trips and workshops with mentors and invited guests will connect residents to the dynamic cultural communities of New York City.
Residents and mentors will work together in NYU’s conveniently located, warehouse-style creative hub at 20 Cooper Square. Everyone will receive semi-private studio space with 24-hour access.
SSR seeks applicants who have received their studio degrees in the last five years who desire an immersive studio experience working closely with 6 professional artists.
