Guest Spot at THE REINSTITUTE  is proud to present Proximities, a solo exhibition of new works by Rob de Oude. In the Project Space, Alex Paik’s Paper Constructs will be on display. Baltimore Museum of Art Front Room: Seth Adelsberger June 29–November 2, 2014 A variety of luminescent and textured paintings from Baltimore-based artist Seth Adelsberger demonstrates the artist’s innovative approaches to painting over the past five years. In intense blues and saturated magentas, he creates his Submersion Paintings by staining untreated canvases with rich washes of acrylic paint before applying a thick layer of gesso. In his hands, this viscous white paint is unorthodoxly sandwiched in between the initial stained layers and a final wash of color, adding texture and dynamic form.

In his Border Paintings, the artist treats a painting’s surface as material to be cut away, leaving only a painted and wrapped edge to frame the void where one would expect to find the most important part of a picture. In other pieces, carpet fragments enhanced with images digitally manipulated replace paint and canvas as the media from which a ‘painting’ is made.

Adelsberger (American, born 1979) is the co-Founding Director of Nudashank Gallery, which has exhibited work by emerging artists, many from Baltimore’s vibrant arts community. His own work has been featured in group and solo exhibitions across the country. In 2008, he received the top award for painting from the Maryland State Arts Council. He received his BSA in Fine Arts from Towson University in 2002, and is a native of Emmitsburg, Maryland.

The exhibition is organized by Curator of Contemporary Art Kristen Hileman.

Top of the World “Destinations” Exhibition

Top of the World Observation Level is excited to welcome “Destinations,” a collaborative exhibition from D. Emerson Myers and Doug Moulden.  Myers’s work is guided compositionally by the city’s infrastructure and thematically by the city itself, its people and its culture.  He takes mapped grids and turns them into a patchwork of colorful neighborhoods and districts.  In his work, Moulden creates a landscape devoid of humans encourages the viewer to place themselves metaphorically into the painting.  The exhibition is on display from Friday, June 20 to Sunday, August 24, 2014.   Guests have an opportunity to visit the for free and meet the artist on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.  Top of the World is located on the 27th floor of the World Trade Center at 401 E. Pratt Street.

Regular hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10am to 6pm, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 7pm and Sunday from 11am to 6pm.  Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and military, and $3 for children 3 to 12 years old.  The last ticket is sold a half-hour before closing.

Baltimore Clayworks Clay from the Classroom and Baltimore Clayworks’ Teachers June 7-21, 2014 Both shows will feature wheel-thrown functional ware, hand-built  sculpture and figures created by children and adults. A variety of finishing  techniques are employed; high and low-fire glazes, wood, salt, pit and electric  firing. All work has been created on-site and taught by professional artists at  the Mt Washington and Community Arts satellite studios: Jubilee Art Center,  Tuerk House and The Zeta Center for Healthy Active Aging.  The work that will be on display is by  beginners and advanced student artists in all stages of life, as well as our  very talented and remarkable ceramics instructors.
