On Friday, June 19th, I attended the reception for three shows at School 33 Art Center, including the reception of “Waiting for Something to Happen”, a solo exhibition by Dominique Zeltzman, located in the Project Space on the second floor of School 33. People have played games for millennia. Play is not only an escape, but also a tool for learning how to live in the world around us. Games help us connect with one another, build skill sets, and most importantly exercise the human imagination. It is through our imaginations that all possibilities can be conceived: alternate universes, creative problem solving, or even to better understand the stranger next door.
The program, Art @ Work: Sandtown began on Monday June 29th with a bang. With an amazing turn out, orientation began. The youth aged 14-21 years old signed in, were separated into their designated groups, met their fellow peers, and their mentoring artists.
