Let the artists do the talking
Fifteen multidisciplinary artists examine the notion of indescribable human connection in EMP’s latest gallery show, Connect the Dots. Curated by dancer and choreographer, Erin Rehberg, the exhibition fuses dance, movement, visual art, video, and music into an electric limited-run event.

As always, EMP aims to erode stereotypes of the white-wall gallery setting and bring new work to audiences on a visceral level.

Gallery Four presents Stopgap, a solo exhibition of recent works by Baltimore artist Lisa Dillin. Through installation, sculpture, and participatory works, Stopgap explores the struggle between our animal instincts and the confines of living in a manufactured world where primitive desires are satiated; the natural world is brought inside, as water fountains become watering holes and sunshine flows from spray guns.

On Saturday, March 16th, 2013, Lisa will present a one-night only participatory work (you may want to bring a dark bathing suit in case supplies run out). Stopgap will be on exhibit through April 20th.

Gallery Four is a 10,000 sq. ft. facility featuring six live/work artist studios and a contemporary art exhibition space. Gallery Four is located in downtown Baltimore’s H&H building.

The New Greenmount West Community Association is now accepting proposals for paintings, stenciling, graffiti and street art on new plywood panels “the canvases” that will cover the windows and doors of the boarded up buildings on the 400 block of Lanvale Street.  This project is funded by the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation Spruce Up Grant that was recently awarded to the New Greenmount West Community Association.

Each artist will be asked to do art work on all 9 panels per row house.  The selected artist will receive an honorarium of two hundred dollars $200 per row house.  Artists can apply for multiple row houses.  Primer and the plywood panels will be provided.  Artist must prime panels, supply paint and additional supplies.  Artists can pick up plywood panels and work in their own space or can utilize the Greenmount West Community Center to work.  The plywood panels will be installed by others once painted by the artists.

Prospective artists are asked to submit a rendering of their design for the boards. The New Greenmount West Community Association respectfully requests that artists do not propose any artwork that includes profanity or racial slurs and no paste ups.  While not required, including links or examples of previous work and/or an artist statement with your submission is highly encouraged.

Submissions due Friday March 29th, 2013 at 5:00 pm.

The Park Committee expects to announce the selected artists by the 1st week of April.  Artwork on the plywood panels begins the 2nd week in April and is to be completed by mid May, 2013.

Please submit renderings to Sergio Martinez, Chair – Clean and Green Team NGWCA at sergiomartinezarchitect@gmail.com

Please include in subject of email “Greenmount West Call for Artists”

IMPRINT is an annual program, launched in 2012 as way to highlight one singular, specific contemporary artist that is excelling in their selected media. The piece selected will be reproduced in a limited edition artist signed print (edition of 100).

IMPRINT artists will benefit from the program by being prominently highlighted on the MAP website through the sale of an artist reproduction throughout the year. MAP will also sell the reproduction through their annual benefits, or offer them as sponsor incentives, which furthers the promotion of the artist name and work. The selected artist’s artwork will officially launch in conjunction with MAP’s Annual Spring Benefit, Out of Order.

Once an IMPRINT artist, always an IMPRINT artist: After your year as a MAP IMPRINT artist, any unsold reproductions in your edition will remain available for purchase and will be archived on the MAP website. Become part of the collection for life!

There are 4,000 children in foster care in Baltimore City and all should benefit from a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer. CASA makes a difference in the present and has a real impact on the future of these young people’s lives.

Showcase your work to a motivated audience of patrons, and become part of our mission to give a voice to the children in Baltimore’s foster care system.

CASA wants to do everything it can to encourage more support for the wonderful, generous community of artists who support their cause. This year, as a way of thanking the artists who donate, CASA is offering 30% of the proceeds of items auctioned at the Art of Caring Benefit back to the artists. CASA is accepting up to five pieces of art from each artist as another way to boost patron support and showcase each artist who participates.

Please consider contributing to CASA and help change the realities of neglected and abused children in our city by participating in the Third Annual Art of Caring, April 28, 2013 at AREA 405.

AREA 405 is honored to be able to donate its space for this worth while cause and we hope you will consider participating either by submitting work to the auction, or by attending the benefit – whose proceeds make a real difference in the lives of Baltimore’s most vulnerable children.

The donation of your art to this event makes a strong statement: Grown- ups in Baltimore care and don’t accept abuse as status quo.
