Carroll Museums 2015 Call for Submissions:

Carroll Museums is happy to announce an open call for submissions for its upcoming Transformation show. Transformation will be a collection of artwork reflecting the title, be it transformation of space, place, or self.

Once selected, work will be on display throughout the historic Carroll Mansion from May 1 – June 14.

Eligibility:

Open to all 2D and 3D artwork with the following limitations:
2D artwork
• Must weigh less than 20 lbs
• Must be able to hang from a single nail or wall molding
• No adhesives allowed
• No painting on the wall of any kind
3D artwork
• Cannot exceed 20 lbs

All artwork must be for sale

Submission Guidelines:

• All submissions must be emailed to submissions@carrollmuseums.org
o Artists must submit a short biography and short statement about their piece(s) and its connection with the Transformation theme.
o Artists can submit up to 5 pieces of art for review
o Artwork for consideration must be submitted as a high resolution photograph or through a link to an artist’s website.
o Include Title, Medium, Dimensions, and Price
o Carroll Museums will collect a 30% commission on work sold
o All submissions for consideration must be received by March 25, 2015

Former MICA students Max Guy and Miranda Pfeiffer, who have moved on to Chicago and Los Angeles, respectively, have recently begun an art-based podcast, Human Eye. While not available on iTunes yet, it is worth checking out on their website, which contains links to things discussed on the podcast, and a drawing worked on by Miranda while talking with Max on the show. Definitely worth a listen!

From the site: “Human Eye is a bi-weekly podcast series hosted by Miranda Pfeiffer and Max Guy. Episodes are part candid, part structured phone conversations about art and life–about living as artists. We share insecurities, talk about working independently, about graduate school, time, money, and what we are/not going to do over the weekend. Each episode is accompanied by a reading guide, with links to criticism, short stories, Instagram accounts, and other resources mentioned in the show.

Occasionally diverging from this format, we interview peers, people we admire and invite guests to contribute audio-experiences.

We have known each other since 2007 when we met at the Maryland Institute College of Art where we both received undergraduate degrees in Interdisciplinary Sculpture. Shortly after graduating, we shared a studio in Miranda’s living room, but then proceeded to collaborate together on larger exhibitions, text-heavy publications, and late night phone calls.

Max Guy is an artist living in Chicago, IL. He has collaborated on projects such as Szechuan Best, Spiral Cinema, and Devil, a creative space for art and exhibition, previously located in Baltimore (with Rock512Devil), and recently relocated to Chicago. He has contributed to the Temporary Art Review, ACRES and What Weekly. Currently, Max is a MFA candidate of Art Theory and Practice at Northwestern University.”

Now Accepting Entries for CANSTRUCTION 2015

CANSTRUCTION is a national event that gathers teams of architects, engineers, contractors, students, and the public to design and build structures made entirely from canned foods within a 10’x10’x10’ space. Afterwards, all the canned goods are donated to the Maryland Food Bank. The Baltimore CANstruction Build Day is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at the White Marsh Mall.

VisArts invites artists working in all media to apply for 2016 Solo Exhibitions in the Gibbs Street Gallery and Common Ground Gallery.

The Gibbs Street Gallery offers exhibitions that explore the breadth of contemporary art featuring emerging to mid-career artists. Exhibits reflect a wide range of media and experimental approaches that offer the viewer unexpected interactions with art. The gallery is approximately 1,100 square feet with 16 ft. ceilings. It is on the street level with floor to ceiling windows along one wall. International, national and local artists are welcome to apply.

The Common Ground Gallery features exhibitions that reflect the creative pursuits of artists from our community. The gallery is located on the second floor and is approximately 300 square feet. Artists must live in the DC/Baltimore metro area to apply for a solo exhibition in this gallery.

Applicants who have participated in a solo exhibition at VisArts within the past two years are not eligible to apply.

*Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

All application materials must be submitted online through our website no later than 11:59 pm EST on 03/25/2015. Application materials submitted by mail or hand delivery must be received in our administrative offices (3rd floor) no later than 5:00 pm on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

Images Submit 5 – 10 images of work produced during the past 3 years. Work samples can be a combination of high resolution photos and time-based media.
Media Requirements: Images must be in .jpg, .jpeg, .png, or .gif file format. Minimum image resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Maximum file size 5MB per image. 2 minutes of video, film, sound or performance documentation = one work. Up to 10 minutes total.

OPEN CALL: SUBMIT YOUR PROPOSAL TO PARTICIPATE IN SOLOS AT ARLINGTON ARTS CENTER

The exhibitions program at AAC supports the work of emerging contemporary artists in the Mid-Atlantic region through our SOLOS exhibitions.

Exhibition proposals are reviewed by jurors who then make recommemndations on exhibitions for inclusion in SOLOS. This year’s jurors are Melissa Ho, Assistant Curator, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and Chicago-based artist Jefferson Pinder. Selected artists, hailing from DC, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, are then featured in a SOLOS exhibition.

WHAT ARE THE SOLOS?

Each year, artists from across the Mid-Atlantic region are selected for solo exhibitions to take place in one of AAC’s seven separate gallery spaces, or outside on the grounds resulting in an exceptional suite of cutting-edge exhibitions featuring art in variety of media. Proposals that specifically take into account AAC’s space, layout, and surrounding environs are encouraged.

WHO CAN SUBMIT?

Artists who produce contemporary art in any media, and who live or work in Virginia; Washington, DC; Maryland; West Virginia; Delaware; or Pennsylvania may submit exhibition proposals. Any existing works must have been completed within the last 3 years in order to be considered.

HOW DO WE CHOOSE?

Submissions will be reviewed by jurors who are curators, artists, and arts professionals.
