Applications for the 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are now open!
Presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (BOPA), the regional affiliate for Maryland, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the country’s longest-running and most prestigious creative teen recognition program for students in grades 7–12.

For the second year, BOPA serves as the regional affiliate for all counties in the state of Maryland for the art region. For the writing region, BOPA serves all counties excluding Anne Arundel, Prince George’s, and Howard.

The Regional Arts Summits are back, and this year they are virtual! Join for statewide updates from the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), arts content-specific breakout groups, community sharing, and more!

The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) announced that it will begin a phased reopening on Wednesday, September 16, with the intention of having all of its galleries and gathering spaces accessible to visitors by Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

The museum will be open Wednesdays through Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with timed-entry passes available to BMA members beginning Friday, August 28 and the general public on Friday, September 4.

Applications to participate in Free Fall Baltimore 2020 are now open. The annual citywide celebration offers arts & cultural events at participating venues throughout Baltimore City. Free Fall Baltimore is held each October in conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month, and showcases the importance of the arts with free concerts, dance and theater performances, festivals, lectures, workshops, art exhibitions, and special events. The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts provides grants, ranging from $250 to $1,500, to cultural organizations with operating budgets under $300,000 to provide free events during the month of October. Due to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic, Free Fall Baltimore 2020 will occur as a hybrid of virtual and small in-person events.

Applications for cultural organizations to participate in Free Fall Baltimore 2020 are available here and due by Sunday, September 6, 2020.

Out of concern for health and public safety, applicants are encouraged to submit applications with robust virtual programming elements. If applicants are planning to produce small in-person events, they must adhere to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for public engagement and have an explicit public safety plan thoroughly outlined in the application.

National Juried Photography Exhibition

The National Juried Photography Exhibition is held biennially in November at the Delaplaine Arts Center as part of FOCUS, a month-long celebration of photography. Artists residing within the U.S. are invited to enter up to three (3) photographs for consideration. The entry fee is $35 per artist ($25 if the artist is a current member of the Delaplaine). All photographs, black & white, color, non-silver, computer-manipulated, digital, or pinhole are eligible.
